We've all had our hands full when opening a door. So what do we do? We use our foot to nudge the door open!
While it's a brilliant solution that we humans have resorted to, the door will eventually take a beating – and it will show. Eek!
So, you're here because you want to prevent damage to your door (or cover it up!). Let's get down to business.
- The first step is to fully open your door. Measure the width of your door across the bottom using a rigid tape measure.
- Then subtract 2-inches from this measurement. This will be the width of your new kick plate! It's important that the kick plate has a 1-inch clearance between the sides of the door and sides of the kick plate. If the kick plate covers the entire width of the door, the door will not close properly.
- Now it's time to determine the height of your kick plate. Measure from the bottom of the door to the first inset or panel and subtract 1-inch from this measurement. This will allow for a half-inch clearance on both the top and bottom of the kick plate. So, if your measurement is less than 8.5-inches, your new kick plate should measure 6-inches in height.
